The Bad guys is an American computer-animated heist comedy film produced by Damon Ross and Rebecca Huntley. It is directed by Pierre Perifel and written by Etan Cohen. It was released in several countries beginning on March 16, 2022.

The Bad Guys’ official trailer was released by the distributor of the movie, Universal Production. The trailer makes the case for the movie being a great choice for families looking for movies to watch in the spring.

Film, The Bad Guys is based on the children’s book series of the same name by the Australian author, Aaron Blabey. The movie tells the story of a criminal group of anthropomorphic animals, upon being caught, pretending to attempt to reform themselves as model citizens, only for their leader to find himself genuinely drawn to changing his ways as a new villain has his plans.

It’s a fairly basic story from the children’s graphic novels with some fairly basic lessons baked in. The movie is basically about the baddies learning how to become goodies.

Leading the group of bad guys who turned goodish in the DreamWorks Animation project, is Sam Rockwell playing the role of Mr. Wolf. Joining Rockwell is funny man Craig Robbin as Shark.

The film has received a positive response from critics. On review aggregator, 88% of 155 critics’ reviews were positive. The movie had an average rating of 6.9/10. The audience’s poll by Cinema Score gave the movie an average grade of “A” on an A+ to F scale.

It’s a clever change to see such a story told in an animated form with a star-studded voice cast. The opening scene of the movie is its strongest and it offers great promise.

DreamWorks Animation project, The Bad Guys has a colorful and lively animation. The physical comedy is at its most inspired when it subtly toys with the instincts of these anthropomorphized creatures: the way Snake sheds his skin mid-heist or how Tarantula walks across a fingerprinting pad. The movie has managed to gain some genuinely witty comedy visuals.

The Guardian gave 3 out of 5 stars and said about the movie:

Like Roger Rabbit, the pacing owes a debt to the demented frenzy of classic Looney Tunes animation, but the film also nodes to heist movies, notably the Ocean series. It’s deliberately preposterous-the disguises are rarely more convincing than the kind of false nose and moustache combo you might find in a cracker. But there’s a kernel of believability where it matters: in the easy repartee and fully fleshed friendships. It’s sharp, silly, and frequently very funny.”

The Bad Guys have gorgeously stylized animation and its sharp comedy is making up for its somewhat lightweight storytelling. The script handles the themes with intelligence. The movie encourages the kids not to judge a book by its cover.

The film has grossed $238 million worldwide making it the ninth-highest grossed film of 2022 and the highest-grossing animated film of 2022.
