Legally Blonde 3 Movie Plot
Sooner or later, we’ll see Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods again on the big screen.
In June of 2018, EW announced that Karen McCullah and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith, the authors of the original 2001 film about a pink-obsessed sorority girl who follows her preppy lover to Harvard Law School only to learn she is much too good for him, were working on a third Legally Blonde film. The third movie, however, has gone through a few revisions since it was first announced, and production has not yet begun.
Since 2003’s Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, the last film in the series to star Witherspoon would be the third installment. (Despite its 2009 release, Legally Blondes did not have Witherspoon in a leading role.)
Things that we do know about the film are down below.
In May of 2020, Mindy Kaling of Never Have I Ever and Dan Goor of Brooklyn Nine-Nine were revealed as screenwriters, replacing McCullah and Smith, the authors of the original 2001 picture but not the 2003 sequel.
After hearing the news, Kaling posted on Twitter, writing, “A purpose for my Elle Woods fan fiction at last! I can’t wait to go back to work with my old pals [Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Dan Goor] on this film. Because of Elle Woods, we know that women can be both feminine and intelligent. The human race, bend and snap!”
While Witherspoon has signed on as both a performer and producer, the film’s supporting cast is still unknown. However, in July of 2018, both Regina King (who portrayed Grace in the first film) and Matthew Davis (who played Warner) expressed interest in reprising their roles.
Davis said, “I would want to know where the authors believe Warner is at this time.” “One scenario I’d love to see is Warner as the “kept man” of a politician’s wife; maybe she’s running for politics and he’s married to her. Another candidate is running against her, and Elle Woods is in charge of that campaign. So Elle Woods is the one leading the charge against Warner’s wife.”
The actual question is, “After all these years of speculation, when can we finally expect to see Legally Blonde 3?” An earlier release date of February 14, 2020 (Valentine’s Day) had been planned. After the mayhem of 2020, the film’s release date was moved back to May of 2022.
We have yet to set a date. Kaling told Time in March 2022 that she and Goor were working on the script, which was delaying production indefinitely. “Kaling has teased that the film would ask questions like “What is Elle Woods like at 42?” and “We don’t want to be responsible for wrecking what is practically Reese’s Avengers franchise.”
Is she finally able to achieve her goals? The question is how this kind of character develops in a mature female. Is she more jaded than she used to be? When she was 22, her optimism and positivity were a huge asset, but how has life altered her outlook?”
Whoever thought making movies was simple need significant mental health help. Reacting to the announcement that she will be appearing in the film, King said, “I frickin’ adore Reese and if she asked me to come back, even if it was only for a scene, I would.”
